Honolulu Gay Neighborhoods
Honolulu is the capital of Hawaii and a popular tourist destination. It’s also a great place to live. With a population of almost 400,000, Honolulu itself is fairly large. When it’s combined with the consolidated area surrounding it, that population reaches almost one million people. Naturally, with a state that legalized same-sex marriage in 2013 and has offered same-sex benefits since 1997, it’s no surprise that many LGBT people live in Hawaii.
Many people live in Waikiki, one of the most well-known beach neighborhoods of Honolulu. While Waikiki isn’t a historically gay neighborhood, it has become one of the most popular LGBT areas in recent years. Unfortunately, like all of Hawaii, real estate here is not cheap. Condos range from a modest $75,000 for a tiny space off the beach to a very expensive $135 million dollar beachfront property. Single family homes are cheaper, starting at $69,000 and ranging to $788,000. However, few of these single family homes have a view of the ocean. Most of them are inland.
