Lenders Have High Hopes for Housing Rebound

Other

Home prices will likely increase 7 percent in 2013, due to tight inventory, high affordability levels, and a stronger economy, according to JPMorgan Chase in its April report. Helping to lift prices, bank analysts say, is the decrease of distressed sales and the higher use of short sales. “However, unemployment is still elevated and we see no signs that lending standards will ease significantly in the near term,” analysts with JPMorgan Chase said in the report. Still, analysts are upbeat about the progress in the housing market. For example, the […]

Foreclosures are taking longer to complete, with the average time it takes a lender to repossess a home jumping to 477 days in the the first quarter of this year compared to 414 days in the fourth quarter of 2012, RealtyTrac reports in its March foreclosure report. HARP Program Extended Another 2 Years

Mortgage Loan

The Home Affordable Refinance Program — a government refinancing program for underwater home owners — will be expanded for another two years, the Federal Housing Finance Agency announces. HARP was originally set to expire Dec. 31, 2013, but will now be extended to the end of 2015. “More than 2 million home owners have refinanced through HARP, proving it a useful tool for reducing risk,” says FHFA acting director Edward DeMarco. Other

With REO sales making up roughly 11% of total sales, it’s important for Realtors to know the short-sale market well, said Equator Vice President of Certification Ashley Bean, when leading a panel discussion at the REOMAC 2013 Summit & Expo in Dallas. During the same panel discussion, a number of short sales experts discussed the health of the industry and gave tips to attendees on how to close more sales. In 2011, the average time it took to complete a short sale was only 108 days, according to Bean. That […]
