With recent events attacking the legitimacy of the press, the group would also like to stress their support of an independent press, free to question and hold to account those in positions of power.

Adults in the LGBTQ community have mixed views about the news media, according to a Pew Research Center survey, with 27 percent reporting that it is friendly, 56 percent neutral and 16 percent unfriendly.

Even though most adults in the community say there has been significant progress toward social acceptance, relatively few (19 percent) attested to the opinion that there is a lot of social acceptance, according to the survey. About 59 percent said there is some and 21 percent said there is little or no acceptance.

With the recent attacks on the legitimacy of the American press, namely the Trump Administration’s refusal to answer direct questions asked by journalist Jim Acosta and their subsequent claims that he is unprofessional, rude and aggressive, as well as using a misleading/edited video to justify revoking Acosta’s press credentials, GayRealEstate.com is stressing their support and the importance of a free and independent press.

The group advocates to enhance the professionalism, skills and career opportunities for LGBTQ journalists, to strengthen the respect and status of LGBTQ journalists in the practice, to support ethical coverage of LGBTQ issues, to foster the principles of inclusion and to provide mentoring and leadership to future journalists.
