Tacoma Gay Neighborhoods
Tacoma, Washington, is a mid-sized city located about 30 miles from the capital of Olympia. The city is a business center for the region. Its name comes from the Mount Tahoma, the original name for Mount Rainier.
The city is known as one of the most LGBT-friendly areas in the country. In fact, The Advocate named it the “Gayest City in America” in 2012. The city does have three main gay districts.
The first is called St. Helens Neighborhood (sometimes called the Stadium District). It’s a hip, fairly young area with a theater district and several gay bars. Condos range from $175,000 to $1.3 million. Single family homes are usually around $250,000.
Then there’s the Hilltop neighborhood. This area has really turned itself around, and housing prices are currently rising. It’s a changing area with some historic properties. Condos here range from $149,950 to $359,950. Single-family homes start at $145,000 and range as high as $1.825 million.
Finally, Strawberry Hill is a fairly small area tucked away in the larger McKinley Hill district. It has some amazing views, and it’s a very up-and-coming neighborhood. Homes in this area range from $115,000 to around $219,000.
