Elizabeth Gay Neighborhoods

Elizabeth, New Jersey, is a good sized city with a population of almost 125,000.  It’s the fourth most populous city in the state and has grown fairly steadily since 1990.  It’s also been named to Popular Science magazine’s list of the 50 Greenest Cities in the country.  It was originally named Elizabethtown, but the name was shortened in 1855.  Today, Elizabeth is known for its busy port and the Bayway Refinery, which produces over 200,000 barrels of oil a day.

If you’re thinking about moving to Elizabeth, you might want to look at the downtown area, sometimes called Elizabethport or E-Port.  This area is very old, but it’s also incredibly diverse.  You’ll find a lot of refurbished homes here, plus a number of new apartments and other buildings.  The area is split into three subdivisions: New Mexico, Diamondville, and Buckeye, all of which are LGBT-friendly.

Condos in this part of Elizabeth are priced between $150,000 and $300,000.  The price really depends on how recently the property was remodeled.  Single family homes can start for as low as $110,000 or may go for as much as $800,000.
