The San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Community Center (called The Center) is one of the largest and most active LGBT community gatherings in the country. Hillcrest Mardi Gras  (February)  A massive street party with a huge dance stage and open-air beats. This is the town’s annual Fat Tuesday celebration. Scandal is rewarded!

FilmOut San Diego (April) The annual LGBT film festival. It helps to promote, celebrate, and support the diverse contributions of LGBTQ filmmakers.

Pride of Hillcrest Block Party (July) San Diego pride with urban style and flare. The streets in Hillcrest are shut down to become dance stages and everyone is family in this giant annual block party. It even has a Ferris wheel. Touché!

She Fest (July)  A woman-centered event. The festival celebrates the talents and contributions of women and facilitates meaningful connections within the LGBT and larger community.

San Diego Pride (July) This is San Diego’s biggest summer party and you’re invited! This is a three-day LGBTQ event that isn’t just about partying. It also includes thought-provoking speakers, sports events, and a rally.

 

 

 

San Diego Neighborhoods

 

 

Hillcrest

Hillcrest is the “gaybourhood” of San Diego and the center of LGBTQ activities. They host the city’s annual gay pride parade, as well as other events year-round. Don’t forget about the Wednesday night drag show at Urban MO’s Bar & Grill.

5.1% of households in the area are same-sex couples. Most of the architecture is single-family homes and condos.

This neighborhood sits in central San Diego and offers a variety of different housing options from condos to cottages to million-dollar homes. 3.9% of households in this neighborhood are same-sex couples. Like Old Town nearby, there are a ton of Spanish Colonial bungalows that populate the area.

Diversionary Theatre Founded in 1986, it’s one of the oldest LGBTQ theaters in the US. The theater is home to thought-provoking performances. They explore complex and diverse LGBTQ stories that have a greater impact on the surrounding communities.

San Diego Museum of Art Built in 1926, the SDMA is home to a large collection of Spanish art. There are also pieces from 19th and 20th century American artists and an old master collection.

Balboa Park This is where science, nature, and culture collide in the city. Balboa Park is breathtaking. The park is home to more than 16 museums, performing arts venues, trails, gardens, and other attractions, like the San Diego Zoo. It boasts more than 1,200 lushly planted acres of plants and flowers that make it a total treat, any time of year.

San Diego Old Town Centered in the 9-block State Historic Park, visiting Old Town is like stepping into a Spanish village in the second half of the 18th century.
