Arvada, Colorado, is a part of the huge Denver-Aurora-Lakewood metro area.  The city alone is home to more than 110,000 people.  Arvada was first settled by gold miners who hoped to strike it rich and later grew thanks to the railroad.  Today, it’s considered a suburb of Denver and is mainly a commuter town.  However, there are some businesses in the city, including a number that are owned by gays and lesbians.

Arvada, Colorado – Peaceful Gay Lifestyle in a Gold Rush City

Arvada is a historic Gold Rush settlement founded in 1850 that now has 109,745 residents. Prospectors used to pan for gold in Clear Creek and Ralston Creek that run through the city. For years, the primarily agricultural community was known as “The Celery Capital of the World.”  The city was originally a suburb of Denver but it became its own city in 1951.  Today it is largely a commuter town to either Denver or Boulder that is served by efficient Amtrak service.
