Gay Realtor Brattleboro, Vermont | A Vibrant Gay Arts Community

If you are looking for a vibrant, LGBT friendly neighborhood then our Brattleboro gay realtor suggests this quaint town in Windham County.  Windham country is located in the southeast corner of the state and borders New Hampshire. It is in the Connecticut River Valley and is located along the western bank of the Connecticut River.

Brattleboro, Vermont is a cultural town with many intellectual and talented residents. It is home to the reputable Brattleboro Retreat (a psychiatric hospital) and the SIT Graduate Institute (a graduate educational facility.)   The town is also one of The 100 Best Small Art Towns in America with a population of under 30,000.

Cultural institutions in the town include the Brattleboro Museum and Art Center, the Hooker-Dunham Theater and Gallery, the In-Sight Photography Project, River Gallery School, the Windham Art Gallery, the Brattleboro Music Center, the Vermont Theater Company, the Vermont Jazz Center and the New England Center for Circus Arts.

This is also a pretty place to live as this town, which is the oldest in Vermont, lies at the intersection of the West River and the Connecticut River.  Architecturally it is gorgeous with many well-maintained old water mills made out of stone.  The town’s old Victorian and stone houses are located on streets that ramble through hilly terrain. Many of the buildings are bunched together and built on steep grades.  The western section of town is home to the state’s largest mobile home park and that is where you will find some of the most affordable housing in the area.

Most of the historic housing is conglomerated at the bottom of the valley. In the north and west of Brattleboro there are many triple-decker Craftsman style single family houses.

The citizens of this town are also very ethical. It was the second small town in the United States to become a Fair-trade certified town after Media Pennsylvania.  It used to be a thriving dairy area with over 170 farms but now only nine are left. It is a great area to invest in a ranch, bed and breakfast or hobby farm.

Brattleboro is also near the famous nude, gay and mixed swimming holes along the West River and Rock River.  This is a series of swimming holes with a centuries old tradition of nude bathing.  The further upstream you go either river the more likely you are to see nude bathers. The area is also near The Ledges, which is a popular spot for bathing on the shores of the Harriman Reservoir.

If you ever thought you might enjoy living in a small town then gay realtor Brattleboro recommends living here. It is only 32.5 square miles in size.  Brattleboro also enjoys the distinction of being less than an hour away from the big cities of Wilmington, Albany, Hartford, Boston and Concord that all have very large LGBT friendly communities as well.  Otherwise the hills and mountains that surround it all give the area the aura of being “away from it all.”
