A Look at Frisco's History

Frisco was initially founded by pioneers who arrived in Texas as part of the push to settle the West. It was officially founded in 1845 and grew quickly. It was originally named Emerson, but the name was later changed to Frisco city in honor of the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway. As railroads and other industries arrive in the state, Frisco became an important center of both agriculture and business and remains so to this day.  Today, Frisco is a vibrant and thriving city with so much to offer. PFLAG Dallas is Frisco’s local chapter of the national PFLAG organization. PFLAG is the largest grassroots organization of its kind in the country and has 500 chapters with more than 200,000 members in the United States. PFLAG plays a critical role in providing advocacy, support, and resources to the LGBTQ community, and offers monthly support meetings, as well as resources, advocacy, and networking opportunities for the LGBTQ community, friends, and allies.

What's the Weather Like in Frisco?

Frisco residents will experience all four distinct seasons, with temperatures ranging from 32° to 94° throughout the year. Typically, summer is warm and lasts from May through September, while the cooler season lasts from November through February. During the remainder of the year, residents can expect pleasant temperatures and can look forward to beautiful spring blooms and changing fall leaves. Frisco receives an average of 40 inches of rain each year, and 1 inch of snow.

Dallas Varsity Gay League

The Varsity Gay League calls itself the original LGBTQ+ Recreational Sports Organization. Established in 2007, it offers year-round activities, games, and sporting events with the goal of uniting the gay and straight communities with new and fun ways to play and interact. The Dallas Varsity Gay League is Frisco’s local branch. All are welcome, and it’s a great way to meet friends, have fun, and get some exercise, all at the same time.

Frisco Commons Park

Frisco Commons Park is a beautiful park in the heart of Frisco that offers many amenities. Whether visitors enjoy playgrounds, trails, sitting by the pond, picnicking, or simply relaxing, this park has it all.

Frisco Nightlife

JR's Dallas

Established in 1980, and only a short drive away in Dallas JR’s Bar and Grill (named for one of the main characters in the 1980s soap opera Dallas) is well worth the trip. JR’s is considered by many to be one of the most popular gay bars in the city. Located in Cedar Springs, it is known for its cheap drinks, friendly atmosphere, and comfortable patio area.

The Hidden Door

The Hidden Door is known as one of the friendliest bars in Texas - and with good reason. This popular LGBTQ bar has been serving the community for 43 years. It offers an excellent patio, great drinks, and lively crowds.
