What do rapper Vanilla Ice, Olympian Katie Meili, and actor Noah Ringer have in common? All three were born in Carrollton, Texas. This city in Denton County isn’t too far from the Dallas-Fort Worth metro, but it's distinct enough to give you that small-town Texas feel. With just a little under 120,000 people, the city is small enough to feel comfortable, but large enough to offer everything you need.
Carrollton is the headquarters for a number of major corporations. Sleep Experts, Parks Coffee, and Motel 6 all operate out of the city. Halliburton has one of their North American operations centers here, and it serves as the area’s largest employer.
Since it’s near Dallas, Carrollton itself doesn’t really have a major LGBT neighborhood or cluster of clubs. It is a great place for LGBT people, though, especially if you’re looking for homes that are more affordable than those in the main DFW area. Condos here start at $115,000 and range up to $235,000. Single-family homes start at around $175,000 and top out at $1.35 million.
