Lee\'s Summit, MO - Healthy Gay Lifestyle in a Green Community

Lee’s Summit was founded way back in 1865 by homesteader William B. Howard. This community is in Missouri, but because it is just across the state line many consider it to be a suburban part of Kansas City. It is situated right on the northern border of Kansas and southern border of Montana across from Kansas City. Lee’s Summit was originally a huge farm and lumberyard that in the 1900s became a bit of a resort and attraction.  Many people who work in Kansas City commute across state lines to live in Lee’s Summit, which is comparatively pastoral and safe.  As of the 2010 U.S. government census, the population of Lee’s Summit was estimated to be 91, 364. The LGBT community is largely under-the-radar here as it is a mostly family community with many shopping malls and community centers.

This is a very eco-conscious town. Lee’s summit is a very green place with many waste reduction incentives and programs including a carpet recycling facility and an electronics recycling facility. The city also has many programs devoted to planting trees, getting rid of landfill and the disposal of hazardous waste. If you want to feel good about where you live then Lee’s Summit is the answer. They are vigilante about every aspect of keeping the city as clean and serene as possible.

If you are a dog-walker, runner, biker or hiker you will love the Greenway Trail System which is a 38-mile loop within the city that allows you to visit scores of parks and that also extends over 100 miles to connect you with nearby Kansas City and Grandview.  Parks within the city limits include the Bailey Farm, Deer Valley, Eagle Creek, Harris Park, Osage Trails, the Winterset Nature Area and scores more.

This is a very sprawling community that is still laid out much like it’s roots as a farm community and you do need a car or a good bike to live here. There is not really any café society here and many people tend to gather at the very large, designer community centers in the area such as the Gamber Center, Hartman Park Sports Complex and Legacy Park Community Center.  Summit Waves is a very popular destination with a long winding man-made river, six lane lap pool and diving boards.

This is a very suburban area so most gay residents do tend to commute to nearby Kansas City to visit LGBTQ bars such as Hamburger Mary’s, Buddies Lounge, Fox Bar and Café Trio.

As of the week ending October 16, 2013 the average price of a home in Lee’s Summit was $262,284.  There were also 114 homes in a state of foreclosure, so there is so opportunity to get a bargain or arrange a short sale.

To find the best place for you to live it is best to consult with a Lee’s Summit gay realtor who knows the city well. For more information about Lee’s Summit visit the city’s official website at cityofls.net.
