Lee’s Summit was founded way back in 1865 by homesteader William B. Howard. This is a very sprawling community that is still laid out much like it’s roots as a farm community and you do need a car or a good bike to live here. There is not really any café society here and many people tend to gather at the very large, designer community centers in the area such as the Gamber Center, Hartman Park Sports Complex and Legacy Park Community Center. Summit Waves is a very popular destination with a long winding man-made river, six lane lap pool and diving boards.
This is a very suburban area so most gay residents do tend to commute to nearby Kansas City to visit LGBTQ bars such as Hamburger Mary’s, Buddies Lounge, Fox Bar and Café Trio.
