Looking for a great city in the central part of the country? Then you should consider Olathe, Kansas. While it’s not a city you might have heard of before, it has made it on Money Magazine’s “100 Best Cities to Live in the United States.” It actually ranked #11 on that list in 2008. It has also been one of the fastest growing cities in recent years.

Olathe is located in the northeastern part of the state, and it’s actually the fourth most populous city with over 125,000 residents. There are a number of major companies with offices or headquarters in the area, include Garmin, ALDI, and Honeywell. While the headquarters of Farmers Insurance Group is located in Los Angeles, the company has more employees in Olathe than anywhere else.

While Olathe is quite welcoming to LGBT individuals, most go to nearby Overland Park or Kansas City for pride and other events. There isn’t a real gayborhoood in Olathe because of this. However, housing prices are lower in Olathe than in the larger cities, which is a plus. Condos range from $105,000 to $350,000. Single-family homes start at $70,000 and top off at around $4 million.
