Gary, Indiana, is known to many as that place Harold Hill sings about in the musical The Music Man, but the city is much more than that. Gary is the ninth largest city in Indiana, although it was once much larger. The city has a number of great neighborhoods, including Downtown, the West Side, Glen Park, and Aetna.
One of the most welcoming areas in Gary is Miller Beach. This little beach side neighborhood is very eclectic and diverse. It’s something of an artist colony, but it’s also home to a number of LGBT people. It’s also very close to Chicago, plus the housing is fairly affordable.
There aren’t many condos for sale in Miller Beach, so if that’s what you’re looking for, you’ll want to live somewhere else. However, there are a number of single family homes available. They start at $65,000 and range up to $259,900.
