Pebble Beach is a tiny, wealthy coastal community on the south side of the tip of the Monterey Bay peninsula. It is a playground for the rich and famous and home to many celebrities including actor/director Clint Eastwood, astronaut Alan Shepard and drugstore millionaire Charles R. Shwab.
This swanky community is owned by Pebble Beach Incorporated and has one store, one gas station and very few other businesses. It is bordered by Monterey to the east, the arts community of Carmel-By- The-Sea to the south and Pacific Grove to the North. The residents are almost entirely Caucasian with some records indicating only 23 African American residents and only 598 Hispanic residents. However, as it is a place where the great stars of Hollywood go to retire, it is also very LGBT-friendly.
That being said there is only one gay bar in town called The King of Clubs. There are also three gay bars in the nearby town of Hayward, including the Funky Monkey, the Turf Club and the Rainbow Room. Many of the residents do their entertainment at home in their own luxury mansions. There are many stunning architectural jewels in this arts-minded town, most from the era of Frank Lloyd Wright. There are also very glamorous Spanish and Mission style homes here.
The homes in the area are stately and either very old or very new. Many are hidden in cliffs or behind old-growth forest. There are seventy golf courses total in the area. Pebble Beach is also home to a very exclusive and expensive boarding school called The Stevenson School.
This scenic area is known for its spectacular outcroppings of granite that are due to the shifting of the San Andreas Fault. It is also home to many endangered species plants and wildlife.
This is a paradise for golfers who enjoy celebrity stand-offs and playing rounds at many of the local greens including the famous PGA course known as Pebble Beach. It is a wonderful place to take long walks along the beach to enjoy the sunset.
This eccentric town has no street lamps and there are no sidewalks or street numbers on the houses. That is why it might be a good idea to consult with a gay Pebble Beach realtor who knows the area well.
The average listing price for homes for sale in Pebble Beach CA was $3.4 million for the week ending August 14, 2013. The strong community and historical preservation societies in Pebble Beach often prevent a home from going into foreclosure or becoming degraded so there are often one or less homes going through the foreclosure process in the area.
