A Look at Chandler's History

Chandler’s founder, Dr. Alexander J. Chandler, was a Canadian from Quebec who came to the area as the Arizona Territory’s first veterinarian in 1891. He bought a large, 18,000-acre tract of land after arriving, and with the help of planners and architects, he subdivided his ranch and drew up a town site map. He held a national advertising campaign for the sale of Chandler Ranch sites which attracted many excursion trains filled with speculators. They arrived on the newly completed Arizona Eastern Railroad and many bought tracts of land, which was the official beginning of the town. From its small beginnings, it grew quickly and has continued to do so since that time. Today, it is a city full of opportunity, art, culture, and more. It’s also known for being a friendly, welcoming, and vibrant town with much to see and do for visitors and residents alike.
