Detroit housing overcoming city bankruptcy

Despite recently filing for a foreclosure, all Detroit Multiple Listing Service sales for July were up by 4.6%, from 6,468 units to 6,763. Additionally, the median sale price for all MLS sales rose 38.9% year-over-year to $125,000, according to data from RealComp. FHFA to Cities: Don’t Abuse Eminent Domain

The Federal Housing Finance Agency is the latest agency to step in and threaten lawsuits to try to stop municipalities from using eminent domain to purchase underwater mortgages. The agency says they have “serious concerns” about any municipality that adopts such a plan, and they will consider legal action against any city that does.
