Big Money Gets Into Landlord Game

Uncategorized

Hedge funds, private-equity firms, pension funds, and university endowments are snapping up foreclosed homes as investments, often working with a local company that identifies the properties and finds renters. The trend could shrink the foreclosure glut and help stabilize the housing market. Institutional investors, in turn, could pocket significant returns by selling the properties once the market recovers. realtormag.realtor.org “Read Full Story” At Gay Real Estate, we keep you posted about all the residential real estate news affecting the LGBT community coast to coast, and in your neighborhood. Median home prices continued to fall last month in King, Snohomish and Pierce counties, but a rise in home sales may be a signal the real-estate market is stabilizing. June home prices rise 0.7% from May but fall 6.8% from June 2010

Buying a Home

U.S. home prices rose 0.7% in June from May, according to a home price index released Wednesday, although some of that increase is probably the result of seasonal variations. The home price index, which includes so-called distressed properties, fell by 6.8% in June when compared with the same month last year, according to Santa Ana research firm CoreLogic. Excluding foreclosures and other distressed properties, prices were up 1.5% in June over May. They fell 1.1% when compared with June 2010. Distressed sales include foreclosure properties as well as short sales, […]

America’s 10 Sickest Housing Markets

Other

For three years, the real estate market has been going in one direction — primarily down. Some areas, however, have begun to recover. Recent S&P/Case-Shiller data show that among the top 20 housing markets in the U.S., 18 had very modest improvements in sales prices during May. Others, like Washington and Boston, have began to at least stabilize from a year ago. Few markets, however, can match Washington and Boston. Robert Shiller has been stating that home prices could fall another 10% in the next year. Inventories in some major […]

Senior Housing Offers to Help Retirees Sell Homes

Selling a Home

The decline in home equity is making it difficult for some retirees to afford senior housing, the USA Today reports. Many seniors often use the sale of a home as significant funding source in order to move into a Build 55+ Community or into long-term community living for seniors and assisted living for seniors such as those found at www.residencesatplainview.com/ and oceanhillsseniorliving.com/living-options/assisted-living/. But with declining home values, some seniors are finding it a struggle to come up with the extra money to pay for senior housing since their homes may […]

Survey: Short Sale Process Still Falls Short

Selling a Home

Seventy-seven percent of real estate professionals report that closing short sale transactions is “difficult” or “extremely difficult” — up from 70 percent in December 2010, according to a survey conducted in June by the California Association of REALTORS®. The survey gauged real estate professionals’ experience and satisfaction with lenders over transactions. Real estate professionals also reported that lenders’ and servicers’ short-sale procedures have shown little improvement in the past six months. “Despite promises by lenders to improve their short-sale processes, clearly, they are not doing enough,” C.A.R. President Beth L. […]

Lawmakers: Extend Unemployment Aid for GSEs

A group of lawmakers are pushing the Obama administration to extend the forbearance period to 12 months for unemployed home owners with mortgages owned or guaranteed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. About 27 lawmakers, all Democrats from the House of Representatives, issued a letter to President Obama this week urging the change to help those with job losses save their homes while they seek employment. Earlier in July, the Obama administration extended the forbearance period to unemployed borrowers from three or four months to 12 months for those with […]

Is the ‘Move Up’ Buyer Starting to Feel Stuck?

Buying a Home

More home owners who want to trade in their current home to buy a larger one are holding off, feeling trapped by a sluggish housing market and the loss of equity in their current home, The Los Angeles Times reports. “Potential move-up buyers … are largely sitting on the sidelines these days, leaving a key part of the housing market stuck in neutral,” The Los Angeles Times‘ article notes. “The promise of rising prices and upward mobility, once a powerful force in the American housing narrative, has been all but […]
