America’s 10 sickest housing markets

Other

Combination of crushed prices, lots of vacancies and down economy have these cities reeling For three years, the real estate market has been going in one direction — primarily down. Some areas, however, have begun to recover. Recent S&P/Case-Shiller data show that among the top 20 housing markets in the U.S., 18 had very modest improvements in sales prices during May. Others, like Washington and Boston, have began to at least stabilize from a year ago. Few markets, however, can match Washington and Boston. Robert Shiller has been stating that home […]

Investing in Real Estate – What is a “Good Deal?”

Uncategorized

Buying Investment Property – What is a “Good” deal? Let’s look at a tried and true way to measure rental property investment returns and what we as buyers should be looking for in our purchases. That leaves positive operating cash flows as our primary source of investment return. Let’s call this: “earning money […]

Uncategorized

Hedge funds, private-equity firms, pension funds, and university endowments are snapping up foreclosed homes as investments, often working with a local company that identifies the properties and finds renters. The trend could shrink the foreclosure glut and help stabilize the housing market. Institutional investors, in turn, could pocket significant returns by selling the properties once the market recovers. realtormag.realtor.org “Read Full Story” At Gay Real Estate, we keep you posted about all the residential real estate news affecting the LGBT community coast to coast, and in your neighborhood. June home prices rise 0.7% from May but fall 6.8% from June 2010

Buying a Home

U.S. home prices rose 0.7% in June from May, according to a home price index released Wednesday, although some of that increase is probably the result of seasonal variations. The home price index, which includes so-called distressed properties, fell by 6.8% in June when compared with the same month last year, according to Santa Ana research firm CoreLogic. Excluding foreclosures and other distressed properties, prices were up 1.5% in June over May. They fell 1.1% when compared with June 2010. Distressed sales include foreclosure properties as well as short sales, […]
