FHFA Backing Away From Servicing-Fee Changes

The Federal Housing Finance Agency is pulling back from plans to revise the minimum servicing fees paid on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loans, and it also reportedly has abandoned a proposal to adopt a “fee for service” compensation model. Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac mortgage delinquencies continue to shrink

The percentage of delinquent mortgages held by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac ended 2011 below levels seen a year earlier. The 30-plus-days delinquency rate on single-family homes on Fannie Mae’s book fell 0.09 points to 3.91% in December from the previous month after holding steady at 4% for three months, according to its monthly summary. Mortgage applications drop 2.9% on Fed’s forecast

Mortgage applications declined last week as the market braced for another two years of low, short-term interest rates, an industry trade group said Wednesday. The Mortgage Bankers Association’s market composite index — a measure of loan application volume — fell 2.9% on a seasonally adjusted basis from a week earlier. Ally puts away $270 million for potential foreclosure fines

Ally Financial ($22.93 0.14%) set aside $270 million for expected penalties in “foreclosure-related matters,” which will likely result in a fourth-quarter loss for the company. The Detroit-based bank is among the country’s largest lenders involved in talks with state attorneys general, regarding a potential settlement of up to $25 billion for alleged foreclosure malfeasance. Hillwood expands multifamily division

Hillwood Properties, the Fort Worth, Texas-based development firm owned by Ross Perot Jr., revealed a long-term strategy Tuesday to grow its multifamily subsidiary, which focuses on investment and development.
