Moving.com identified the top metro areas for 18- to 29-year olds, factoring in affordable housing and rental costs, low unemployment, and education and entertainment opportunities. More than 1.5 million older Americans have lost their homes to foreclosure and millions more are at risk, according to a new AARP report. The risk appears to be greatest among Americans 75 years and older, as well as minority home owners. About one in 30 adults 75 and older face foreclosure today. Green Homes Sell for Higher Values, Study Says

Green homes can net higher sales prices, according to a new study conducted by the University of California. Researchers analyzed 1.6 million home sales from 2007 to 2012 and found that green-certified, single-family homes sold for $34,800 more — or 9 percent more — than comparable non-green-certified homes in California. A proposed bill may soon help speed up the approval process for home owners selling their home through short sale by requiring subordinate lien holders to review and respond to short-sale requests within 45 days. The home-building industry continues to dig out of its slump as the pace of construction posts big jumps for single-family and multifamily houses. Builders had a level of starts in June not seen since October 2008, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday. Housing starts in June soared 6.9 percent, reaching a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 760,000 units.
