Foreign Buyers Flock to Sun and Sand States

Buying a Home

U.S. housing prices are starting to creep up from the rock-bottom levels of recent years, which is prompting foreign buyers to invest now before the bargains disappear. Traditional favorites, such as Florida, Arizona, Texas, and Southern California, stand to benefit most as they scoop up the deals still remaining in those preferred destinations. Canadians — accounting for nearly a quarter of home sales to foreign buyers in the 12 months ended in March, according to the National Association of REALTORS® — will likely continue to lead outside investment in the […]

Street Names Make a Difference on Asking Prices?

Buying a Home

The street name of a neighborhood can affect the asking price on a home, at least according to a new survey by Trulia. Trulia analyzed the median asking price per square foot among various types of address suffixes, like “Lane” and “Park.” Street addresses with the words “Boulevard,” “Place,” and “Road” were found to have higher average asking prices than homes with addresses ending in “Avenue,” “Drive,” or “Street,” according to the Trulia study. For example, homes that were located on streets with the word “Boulevard” in the address sold […]

Other

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced that it will be increasing the revenue standards for businesses in 58 categories, including several in real estate. SBA periodically reviews its size standards to make sure it reflects up-to-date marketplace conditions. Within the real estate and rental and leasing sector, SBA announced it will increase standards for 21 categories. That will allow more than 13,000 additional companies to qualify as “small” under the new […]

Shadow Inventory Threat Lessens

Mortgage Loan

The shadow inventory of troubled mortgages and foreclosed homes saw a 1.2 million decrease in the first half of the year, according to research conducted by JPMorgan Chase. Chase researchers expect that progress to double before the year’s end, too. That would then bring the shadow inventory to more than 4 million, which is down from the 6 million peak reached in 2010. A rising number of short sales has allowed more banks to clear the shadow inventory that has threatened the housing market’s recovery, according to the research. Banks […]

Other

San Francisco lawmakers will vote Tuesday on a possible building code change that could allow some of the tiniest apartments in the country. The new apartments could be as small as 220 square feet, which would include a kitchen, closet, and bathroom. For those looking for something a bit bigger, then consider checking other options like these 2 bedroom apartments.  In San Francisco, current building codes require that just a living room alone be 220 square feet. Those in favor of the micro units say that the smaller two bedroom […]
