Foreign Buyers Flock to Sun and Sand States

Buying a Home

U.S. housing prices are starting to creep up from the rock-bottom levels of recent years, which is prompting foreign buyers to invest now before the bargains disappear. Traditional favorites, such as Florida, Arizona, Texas, and Southern California, stand to benefit most as they scoop up the deals still remaining in those preferred destinations. Canadians — accounting for nearly a quarter of home sales to foreign buyers in the 12 months ended in March, according to the National Association of REALTORS® — will likely continue to lead outside investment in the […]

Street Names Make a Difference on Asking Prices?

Buying a Home

The street name of a neighborhood can affect the asking price on a home, at least according to a new survey by Trulia. Trulia analyzed the median asking price per square foot among various types of address suffixes, like “Lane” and “Park.” Street addresses with the words “Boulevard,” “Place,” and “Road” were found to have higher average asking prices than homes with addresses ending in “Avenue,” “Drive,” or “Street,” according to the Trulia study. For example, homes that were located on streets with the word “Boulevard” in the address sold […]

SBA Raises Revenue Standards for Real Estate

Other

The U.S. Small Business Administration announced that it will be increasing the revenue standards for businesses in 58 categories, including several in real estate. The SBA’s size standards reflect the maximum amount a firm can have to still be considered a small business. SBA periodically reviews its size standards to make sure it reflects up-to-date marketplace conditions. Within the real estate and rental and leasing sector, SBA announced it will increase standards for 21 categories. That will allow more than 13,000 additional companies to qualify as “small” under the new […]

Buying a Home

A quarter of Americans say they want to put off purchasing a home until they know who the next president will be, according to a poll conducted on behalf of MortgageMarvel.com of more than 2,500 adults. “It’s understandable that a considerable number of people say the upcoming election would give them pause for thought,” says Rick Allen, chief operating officer of Mortgage Marvel. “There has been speculation that tax policies could change depending upon who wins. Some have even indicated that the longstanding deduction for mortgage interest could be eliminated. […]

Shadow Inventory Threat Lessens

Mortgage Loan

The shadow inventory of troubled mortgages and foreclosed homes saw a 1.2 million decrease in the first half of the year, according to research conducted by JPMorgan Chase. A rising number of short sales has allowed more banks to clear the shadow inventory that has threatened the housing market’s recovery, according to the research. Banks […]
