REALTOR® Groups Speak Out Against Bulk REO Sales

Other

The California Association of REALTORS® is calling for a change in leadership at the Federal Housing Finance Agency, mostly stemming over its pilot bulk sales foreclosure program, which CAR has called harmful to the housing recovery. CAR’s latest objection stems from the federal government’s Nov. 5 sale to investment firm Colony Capital, which took ownership of 970 foreclosed homes in California, Nevada, and Arizona in a recent auction. Colony Capital had the winning bid of $176 million for the Fannie Mae properties. “Fannie Mae and FHFA’s decision to move forward […]

The median down payment sank to its lowest level since 2009, averaging 9 percent for home buyers this year, according to housing data by the National Association of REALTORS®. First-time home buyers’ median down payment was 4 percent and repeat buyers averaged a 13 percent down payment, according to the housing data. “First-time buyers historically make small down payments, but repeat buyers like to put down 20 percent if they can to avoid paying mortgage insurance,” says Paul Bishop with NAR. “The general loss in home value since the peak […]

Foreclosure discounts shrinking in South Florida

Other

Foreclosure discounts are getting smaller as intense competition for homes forces buyers to pay closer to market value, Zillow.com says. Buyers in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties earned a 2.9 percent discount in September, down from 6.8 percent a year earlier, according to the Seattle-based website. Nationally, bank-owned discounts fell to 7.7 percent in September from 9.1 a year ago. South Florida’s peak foreclosure discount was 22.7 percent in August 2008.
