Uncategorized

With record-low mortgage rates and rising selling prices, investor demand has been strong, and another homebuilder is looking to cash in with an initial public offering (IPO). The builder filed with U.S. regulators for its IPO in December. At the time, it had hoped to raise up to $250 million. Last month, Tri Pointe Homes LLC was the first U.S. home builder to go public in more […]

Atlanta’s Metro Brokers with Better Homes and Gardens is launching a program that will pay for all the training and licensing for up to 3,000 vets who want to become real estate agents. Over the next five years, the brokerage hopes to bring about 50 vets each month into the program. Multifamily Growth Poised to Continue in 2013

Other

Home building is once again contributing to the nation’s economic growth, and a major factor behind that growth has been the expansion of multifamily construction such as apartment communities and for-sale condominiums. Home ownership remains down, especially among younger households. Additionally, the overall number of households — home owners and renters combined — is lower than it should be considering U.S. population growth. With a boom in household formation expected in the years to come, most of them are expected to start out as renters as economic and labor market […]

The best month to sell? April, according to the analysis. Homes sold in April tended to sell closer to their asking price. In April, homes were found to sell for a 99.2 percent […]

Low Inventories Prompt Agents to Go After More Listings

Buying a Home

Inventories of for-sale homes are so tight in some markets that some agents are writing home owners letters or even going door to door asking if the owners would be willing to sell. They’re also looking at reviving expired listings. A shortage of New York City apartments for sale is prompting agents to take such actions, The New York Times reports. In Manhattan, about 5,160 apartments and townhomes were on the market at the end of last year — the lowest number on record, according to the appraisal firm Miller […]

Pent-up demand fuels home sales: NAR

Selling a Home

The national median home price saw the strongest year-over-year increase in seven years as a growing number of metropolitan areas posted higher median values in the fourth quarter of 2012, the National Association of Realtors said. Favorable affordability conditions, increasing rent rates, demand for housing and job creation are some of the drivers leading to solid home price performance, said chief economist Lawrence Yun at NAR. “Home sales are on a sustained uptrend, mortgage interest rates are hovering near record lows and unsold inventory is at the lowest level in […]

Monday Morning Cup of Coffee: Lenders react to FHA mortgage insurance changes

Buying a HomeMortgage Loan

A look at stories across HousingWire’s weekend desk, with more coverage to come on bigger issues: Not only will FHA Mortgage Insurance Premiums be increasing 10 to 15 basis points, but they will also become permanent, creating room for alarm among lenders who fear lower-income homeowners will be squeezed out of the market. U.S. Federal Housing Commissioner Carol Galante announced the changes in late January. Many are arguing that, for a loan designed to help lower-income families and first time homebuyers, this increase in premiums is unjust, according to a […]
