Job growth is helping to lift the housing market in key areas. The three cities that are posting some of the strongest price growth year-over-year are also seeing faster job growth than the national average, according to government data. The attorneys for a Mississippi man who was at one point charged with sending letters laced with ricin to the president and other government leaders are pushing federal authorities to repair or replace the man’s home, which was left unlivable after investigators’ extensive search of it. Completed foreclosures rose in March, but the big drop in the number of distressed properties entering the pipeline remains encouraging, analysts say. In March, 55,000 foreclosures were completed, a 6 percent increase from February, according to a newly released report from CoreLogic. But, overall, foreclosures have fallen more than 16 percent year-over-year. Completed foreclosures are down 52 percent from their 2010 peak, and nearly all of the top 100 major metro areas are posting declining foreclosure rates, says Mark Fleming, CoreLogic’s chief economist. A real estate professional discovered what appeared to be pipe bombs in a crawl space of a vacant Nashville home that is listed on the market. The agent made the potentially explosive find at 7 p.m. Sunday, and contacted authorities. More than a dozen neighbors were evacuated from the area as a bomb squad was called out to remove the devices from the home. The bomb squad determined the devices were hazardous.
