Big-Ticket Homes in Higher Demand

Other

The luxury home market is gaining momentum, with prices rising and many areas where upscale housing once struggled now turning into a seller’s market, according to the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing. “Prices have been trending up fairly strongly since the beginning of the year,” Laurie Moore-Moore, the institute’s founder, recently told the Chicago Tribune. “Inventory has been tight, though we’re starting to see a little growth in inventory again. It’s not stock-market driven, not necessarily. When you look back at the housing-market downturn, the low point probably was in […]

Inertia Might Win Out in Secondary Mortgage Market Reform

Mortgage Loan

With secondary mortgage market companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac making money again, there’s a good chance lawmakers in Congress will drag their feet on overhauling the country’s residential secondary mortgage market system, despite its almost 100 percent reliance on the federal government today. That’s according to Robert Couch, a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center housing commission that earlier this year published a 140-page report on how to reform the system titled “Housing America’s Future: New Directions for National Policy.” “Inertia is gaining momentum,” Couch told hundreds of REALTORS® […]

Rising Housing Market Likely to Lift Job Mobility

Other

Home owners are starting to feel freer to move where the jobs are, Reuters reports, as worries about homes that won’t sell or will sell at a loss begin to fade. Since early 2012, home prices in the major metro areas have been rising. Homes are also selling faster: It took 62 days, on average, to sell a home, compared with 91 days one year prior, according to March data from the National Association of REALTORS®. The increase in mobility from the recovering housing market is expected to have a […]

Freddie Releases New Loan Program Early

Mortgage Loan

Mortgage giant Freddie Mac announced that it will make a new streamlined loan modification program for delinquent borrowers available now, instead of holding off the launch date to July 1 as originally planned. Mortgage servicers will be able to offer a streamlined modification to borrowers who are at least 90 days late on their Freddie-owned or guaranteed mortgage. Borrowers cannot be more than 720 days delinquent on their loan, however, to qualify. Also, the loan must be at least a year old. The new program will waive any document requirements […]

Foreclosure Settlement Marred by Bad Checks

Other

About 96,000 borrowers will receive an additional check to correct errors made in initial payments sent to compensate them for foreclosure mishandlings. The payments are part of a nationwide settlement. Some borrowers were issued amounts that were too low, the Federal Reserve announced, and the new checks will make up the difference. Borrowers should cash the original check along with the new check when they receive it. The new checks will be mailed by the end of the week. The Federal Reserve announced last week that about 96,000 of the […]

In March, there were 10,215 new and resale houses and condos closed in the metro area that encompasses Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and Broward counties. Sales in March rose 18.8% from […]

HUD to sell 40,000 distressed loans in 2013

Mortgage Loan

In an effort to address the country’s shadow inventory and relieve high-foreclosure areas, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will sell thousands of severely delinquent mortgage loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration. Throughout the summer ahead, HUD will sell approximately 20,000 distressed loans via the Distressed Asset Stabilization Program in an attempt to increase recoveries to FHA’s Mutual Mortgage Insurance Fund from non-performing FHA-insured loans, while contributing to stabilization and recovery in communities that took the hardest hit during the housing recovery. The offerings by HUD will […]
