New York rebounds on housing, economic front

Other

It’s a positive sign when the largest job market in the nation is in the midst of a strong economic recovery. According to the latest data from the Obama Administration, the local New York economy made modest improvement after the 2001 recession. Nonfarm payrolls rose at an average annual rate of 84,150 jobs, or 1.0%, from the third quarter of 2003 through the first quarter of 2008, the administration said. Compared to the rest of the nation, the impact of the 2007-2009 recession had a relatively light impact on New […]

U.S. Strengths Keep International Buyers Coming Here

Buying a Home

Favorable exchange rates, global economic uncertainty, and a desire for nice weather and scenery are driving more international buyers to purchase properties in the United States. How to serve the needs of those buyers was the subject of several presentations at the Global Business & Alliances Committee Wednesday morning during the 2013 Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in Washington, D.C. Seven percent of all U.S. residential properties sold last year were purchased by foreign consumers, according to the National Association of REALTORS®’ Profile of International Home Buying Activity. Moreover, […]

Buying a Home

Dear Friends, When I relocated to Santa Barbara five years ago, I thought I’d be moving to a pretty, sleepy little beach town. It was only 70 miles from Los Angeles, & an easy day trip into “the City” if I needed a little excitement. What I didn’t know was that Santa Barbara, quietly nestled between the ocean & the mountains, represents the essence of California — the art and culture of a big city & the heart and hospitality of a small, coastal town. What I have come to […]

Buying a Home

School’s coming to Capitol Hill over the next two days as thousands of REALTORS® meet with lawmakers to provide a refresher course on how critical the federal government’s historic support for home ownership is to the country’s future. “We have an unprecedented situation today, because so many members of Congress are new and really don’t always know how important home ownership incentives are to the economy and to the country,” NAR Chief Lobbyist Jerry Giovaniello told thousands of REALTORS® packed into a 7 a.m. session Wednesday as a kick-off to […]

Tax Reform Effort to Be Open and Serious

Uncategorized

Amid all the partisan squabbling in Washington, D.C., that makes national news headlines is a bipartisan effort by the House and Senate chairs of the tax-writing committees to roll out major tax-reform legislation this summer and have it considered by Congress before the end of the year. Warren Payne, policy director on the tax-writing House Ways & Means Committee, met with the National Association of REALTORS®’ Taxation Committee Wednesday morning at the 2013 Midyear Legislative Meetings and Trade Expo. He told attendees that Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), the committee chair, […]
