The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) proposed a new rule in January that requires lenders to carefully scrutinize borrowers’ ability to repay their mortgages. The ability-to-repay rule, which first was greeted with positive reaction, now has some lawmakers and community banks concerned that it may cause lending to tighten even more at smaller banks, The Wall Street Journal reports. Existing-home sales rose in April but remain below underlying demand because of limited inventory and tight credit, according to the National Association of REALTORS®. All regions are showing strong price gains from a year ago. Total existing-home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, increased 0.6 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.97 million in April from an upwardly revised 4.94 million in March. Following a 6-month search, police arrested a 32-year old man on charges of stalking more than 20 female real estate agents in the Nashville area over the past year. Police allege that Robert Green sent provocative text messages and naked pictures of himself to the female agents.
