Home Buyers Be Advised – Cash is King!

Buying a Home

If you’re looking to buy a home right now, you’d better find some cash and you’d better find it fast. Right now homebuyers across the country, already in frenzied bidding wars for homes, are increasingly losing out to the almighty all-cash buyer. “I had one couple, that was very well-qualified but would require a mortgage, put offers on four properties that were all sold to somebody else who paid cash,” says Bruce Taylor, president of ERA Key Realty Services in Boston. “It’s a very tight market. Until prices escalate further, […]

Housing Inventory Shortages Start to Ease

Other

The percentage of homes for sale has risen 25 percent this year and housing inventories have started to outpace typical seasonal upticks, realtor.com® reports. Rising home prices likely are encouraging more home sellers to test out the market. The inventory crunch may be showing signs of easing with listings rising 5.8 percent in May. Still, the number of homes for sale is low by historical standards. Listings in May are still 10 percent below year-ago levels. The places where the number of homes for sale rose the most were Atlanta […]

Fannie Mae housing outlook sees smoother road ahead

Other

Fiscal headwinds are expected to keep growth to below 2% for the first half of the year. However, as fiscal drags wane in the second half of 2014, growth should continue to move in the positive direction during an ongoing housing recovery, according to the Fannie Mae latest housing outlook report. Housing was largely positive entering the spring and summer season, with various indicators such as home prices, home sales and homebuilding activity showing signs of long-term improvement toward normalcy. “At the outset of the year, we forecasted that 2013 […]

Foreclosure Activity Back on the Rise

Other

Foreclosure filings which include default notices, scheduled auctions, and bank repossessions—increased 2 percent in May, rising from a 75-month low in April, according to the latest foreclosure report from RealtyTrac. Still, foreclosure filings are down 28 percent from a year ago. The May increase was largely attributed to an 11 percent increase in bank repossessions. Foreclosure starts also ticked up 4 percent in May over last month, with 26 states posting increases, according to the report. “Foreclosure activity continued to bounce back in some markets where it may have appeared […]

Housing heat dissipates as supply begins to meet demand

Other

Sparse housing supply coupled with strong buyer demand left many homebuyers frustrated as rates continued to inch up and buyers felt the heat to buy now. However, according to data from Realtor.com, as the hot spring buying season moves into summer, some regions are seeing a replenishing of for-sale homes as sellers begin to respond to pent up demand. This is a relief for many after housing inventory hovered around levels not seen in nearly 10 years even as recent as three months ago. In May, national inventories increased by […]

Topeka Gay and Lesbian Equality House

Buying a Home

We all know about the protest efforts of the Westboro Baptist Church, but in recent years, some amazing counter-protests have sprung up. None more incredible than the Equality House  an entire house painted as one giant rainbow, directly across from Westboro itself in Topeka, Kansas. The idea was the brainchild of Planting Peace, an international relief aid charity, whose founder was inspired by a child, who passed by the Westboro protestors during graduation at Washburn University, with a sign that read “God hates no one.” “The founder of Planting Peace […]
