No Reason to Fear a Housing Bubble

Uncategorized

Worries that there’s an out-of-control housing price run-up in the works are overblown. There are huge differences between what’s happening now and the crises of last decade, and there’s little reason to see immediate danger even in the most torrid of today’s real estate markets. The current heat in the housing market is a short-term phenomenon. There has been a noticeable pickup in demand. The slowly improving economy and better job growth mean more would-be homeowners in the market, while cash-paying investors continue to comb listings for properties they can […]

30-Year Mortgage Rates Climb Near 4% Range

Mortgage Loan

For the sixth consecutive week, mortgage rates inched higher, continuing to climb from all-time lows, Freddie Mac reports in its weekly mortgage market survey. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage ”the most popular among home buyers” has now climbed a half percentage point since last month. A strengthening economy and positive employment report this month prompted fixed-rate mortgages to climb higher this week, says Frank Nothaft, Freddie Mac’s chief economist. Freddie Mac reports the following national averages with mortgage rates for the week ending June 13: 30-year fixed-rate mortgages averaged 3.98 percent, […]

The sellers of a San Diego-area 5-bedroom home are refusing to leave the residence after closing escrow with home buyers on May 17. The purchase agreement had specified that the sellers would leave the day escrow closed, but the buyers say they can’t get them to go. The buyers “Steve Adler, his wife, and three kids” moved into a two-bedroom “granny flat” next to the garage of the new home, while the sellers continue to live in the main portion of the home. Adler says he is paying the full […]

The 8- by 12-foot parking space is in an enclosed garage in a condominium building near the San Francisco Giants’ ballpark. A Porsche SUV was parked in it on Thursday. The Chronicle said the unidentified buyer did not respond to interview requests. While it may seem like a lot of money, real estate agents […]

Buying in Miami? Versace Home $25 Million Price Cut

Buying a Home

Discounts and price cuts occur all the time in real estate, especially for homes that have spent some time on the market. Those discounts, however, usually register in the thousands — occasionally a couple of million. But a $25 million price cut? That’s significant no matter how you look at it. The late Gianni Versace’s former Miami home has had not one, but two of these significant price cuts. The house, known as Casa Casuarina, first hit the market with a hefty price tag of $125 million a year ago; […]
