Although year-over-year, housing inventory was down in June, it has improved since the beginning of the year as the spring selling season brought with it an increased inventory, according to Zillow.  This report comes a day after Realtor.com released its own inventory report, which also indicated a lessening in the inventory crunch.

Distressed home owners who are unhappy about their home being sold in a short sale are trying to sabotage the sale by purposely damaging the home to make it less appealing and valuable, according to officials with CoreLogic.

For the sixth consecutive week, mortgage rates inched higher, continuing to climb from all-time lows, Freddie Mac reports in its weekly mortgage market survey. The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage ”the most popular among home buyers” has now climbed a half percentage point since last month. A strengthening economy and positive employment report this month prompted fixed-rate mortgages to climb higher this week, says Frank Nothaft, Freddie Mac’s chief economist. The sellers of a San Diego-area 5-bedroom home are refusing to leave the residence after closing escrow with home buyers on May 17. The purchase agreement had specified that the sellers would leave the day escrow closed, but the buyers say they can’t get them to go. The buyers “Steve Adler, his wife, and three kids” moved into a two-bedroom “granny flat” next to the garage of the new home, while the sellers continue to live in the main portion of the home. Parking spots apparently aren’t immune from the recent surge in San Francisco real estate prices. A spot in the city’s trendy South Beach neighborhood sold last week for $82,000, the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Thursday. The 8- by 12-foot parking space is in an enclosed garage in a condominium building near the San Francisco Giants’ ballpark. A Porsche SUV was parked in it on Thursday.
