Salt Lake City Gay Neighborhoods
Salt Lake City, Utah, is known for being the home of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, otherwise known as the Mormon Church. Because the church infamously donated a lot of money in support of Prop 8 (the California motion to deny same-sex couples the right to marry), many people assume Salt Lake City would not be a very LGBT-friendly place. However, you might be surprised to know the city has been named one of the top gay-friendly places to live in the U.S. That’s because the population is mostly non-Mormon families.
Salt Lake City has a fairly diverse population, and many LGBT people live throughout the area. However, there is one part of the city that is often referred to as a gay district: The Avenues. This area is located on the North side of the Salt Lake and has a beautiful view. There are many turn of the century homes here. It’s a friendly neighborhood that’s close to downtown. Condos range in price from $150,000 to $1.1 million. Single family homes tend to vary in price. On the cheaper end are homes for around $250,000. Homes at the other end of the scale include some $4.5 million dollar mansions.
