Detroit Gay Neighborhoods
Detroit has one of the most diverse gay communities in the country, but there’s not really a gay neighborhood in the city. Instead, the LGBT population is spread across Detroit. The main gay bars and clubs are located in the north and west parts of the city.
Detroit did have an LGBT community in the 70’s and 80’s. Palmer Park was the first area, but crime forced many people to move to Ferndale and Royal Oak. Those areas, too, were eventually mostly abandoned by the LGBT population. While the city is overall much safer now and is very welcoming of gays and lesbians, there really is no center for the LGBT population. Some say that means the city is much more accepting, while others wish the community would be united in some area.
Detroit has many homes and condos for sale. Condos can be found for as little as $6,000 or as much as $500,000. Single family homes range from $35,000 to $1.6 million.
