Des Moines Gay Neighborhoods
Des Moines is the capital city of Iowa, and it’s also the largest city in the state. With a population of almost 600,000 people as of the 2010 Census, it’s no wonder that Des Moines would have an LGBT neighborhood. There’s a lot that’s attractive about Des Moines, although the city probably doesn’t rank on a list of amazing places to visit. However, it is home to many insurance companies, publishers, and financial companies. It’s also one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S. The 2000 Census listed the population of Des Moines as a little under 200,000 people.
If you’re looking for a great gay neighborhood in Des Moines, you need to check out the East Village. This area is situated to the east of the downtown section and to the west of a number of government buildings. It’s a growing area that attracts many younger LGBT people. The businesses there cater to this crowd and are mostly bars and other trendy places. A number of new condos have been built in the area, too. It’s also very safe, and many people walk to nearby restaurants and shops.
Condos in the area are fairly expensive since many of them are so new. They are usually priced around $560,000. Single family homes are difficult to find in the East Village.
