It is an important center for higher education and is home to the University of Evansville and the University of Southern Indiana. A Look at the History of Evansville

Evansville's history stretches back a long time – almost as long as the history of humanity, in fact. Historians believe that there has been a continuous human presence in the area since at least 8000 B.C., and archaeologists have identified several fascinating ancient sites in the area. The more modern-day history of the city began in 1812, however. It was founded at that time and officially incorporated in 1817. Following its founding, the city grew quickly, eventually becoming a thriving commercial center due to its location on the Ohio River. It has grown steadily since that time, and today remains a diverse and welcoming city full of industry and innovation. For so many reasons, Evansville would make a wonderful place to call home!
