Pompano Beach, FL – Gay Lifestyle in a Resort City

Pompano Beach, Florida is a beautiful smaller city of 99,845 located on the Atlantic coastline just north of Fort Lauderdale. This is one of North America’s top vacation home markets and it has been featured as the place to invest in CNN Money and the Wall Street Journal.  The city includes several beaches on three miles of beachfront including Hillsboro Beach, Light House Point and Deerfield Beach. This lovely and convenient place to live is bounded on the west by Coconut Creek and on the south by Fort Lauderdale.

Like many Florida cities, Pompano Beach is very gay-friendly and a popular destination for gay vacationers who stay in the time-shares, vacation homes and tall glassy condos that line the oceanfront. Properties for sale here also include beach cottages, glamorous Key West style homes with pools, Spanish style villas, Art Deco style homes and mid-century modern homes.

This small city is mainly known for its swimming, boating, fishing and other beach activities. It also holds several annual events including the Pompano Beach Seafood Festival, the St. Patrick’s Irish Festival, the St. Coleman’s Italian Festival and the Annual Nautical Flea Market at Pompano Community Park. There is also The Ely Educational Museum, the Meridian Gallery and Pompano Beach Art Gallery.

The city also has a historical downtown at Flagler Avenue and NE First Street with a central area that has a Greenmarket featuring art shows, antique shows, environmental exhibits and a market.  It is also home to the State of Florida Underwater Archaeological Preserve, which is a dive site on a reef fifteen feet out into the ocean that features the wreck of an 1898 steamship.

Another popular attraction is the local Pompano Golf Course but there are also many other golf courses in the area including The Crystal Lake Golf Course, the Cypress at Palm Aire, the Oaks at Palm Aire, The Pines at Pompano and scores more.

While sunning themselves on the beach of the Gold Coast, residents and visitors often enjoy the sight of the Goodyear blimp called the Spirit of Innovation floating by in the sky. The famous blimp parks itself in the city of Pompano.

The community here is supportive and accepting of gays but Pompano is quite small so there is only one gay bar in the city called Swinging Richards.  Most of the LGBT nightlife is just a short drive down the coast to downtown Fort Lauderdale where there are hangouts such as Bill’s Filling Station, Ramrod, George’s Alibi, Rumors and Atomic Boom.

The average price per square foot for a Pompano Beach home was $145 per square foot this fall, which is a full increase of 20.8% in value since last fall.
