San Francisco Gay Neighborhoods
When someone is asked to name the gay capital of the U.S., the first name that comes to many people’s minds is San Francisco, California. Home of a huge pride event, many LGBT-owned businesses, and the Castro District, San Francisco is a gay Mecca, and many LGBT people visit it at least once in their lifetimes.
One reason San Francisco is so synonymous with the LGBT community in the United States is because of the history the city has with the gay and lesbian community. The first openly gay person to run for public office so here, and the first lesbian rights group was formed in San Francisco.
While the lines between gay ghettos and the rest of San Fran have practically disappeared, the Castro is still definitely the largest and most well-known gay district in the city. However, like much of San Francisco, it’s not cheap. Condos can be priced anywhere from $800,000 to $2.5 million. Single-family homes range from $900,000 to $3.5 million.
