Salinas Gay Neighborhoods
Salinas, California, is located on the southern part of the greater San Francisco Bay Area and about 10 miles from the Salinas River. The city has more than 150,000 residents. The climate is perfect for a number of farming industries, and Salinas is home to a large number of vineyards, vegetable growers, and florists. Because of this, the city’s main industry is agriculture. Many know Salinas from the works of John Steinbeck, who lived in the city and used it in a number of his books.
While Salinas is near San Francisco, the city’s LGBT population, mostly stayed on the low-key side. They didn’t hold their first pride parade until 2007, and PFLAG only organized a local chapter in 2008. However, again because of their proximity to the Bay Area, there’s not much discrimination in Salinas. There’s no real gay neighborhood here, but there doesn’t necessarily need to be.
Looking for a condo in the city? You’ll find them priced between $140,000 and $600,000. Single family homes run between $94,000 and $4 million.
