How Do Men, Women Make Home Buying Decisions?

Buying a Home

While the price of a home and its square footage are important factors in judging a home, women and men also base their decision largely on how they “feel” and whether the home fits their lifestyle, according to a new survey conducted by Coldwell Banker Real Estate. The survey of 1,000 men and women found that the sexes don’t differ too much when it comes to sizing up a home to buy. For more than a quarter of home buyers, […]

My partner and I moved to Raleigh in 1992. We love it here. It’s an up and coming area, growing and changing every day. The influence of NC State, UNC and Duke plus several other schools along with the brainpower in the Research Triangle Park make this a great place to live. Downtown Raleigh is in its re-birth with commercial and residential building everywhere you look. Along with this growth come the other amenities like restaurants, shopping and recreation. Freddie Mac mortgage rates back below 4%

Mortgage Loan

The nation’s average 30-year fixed-rate mortgage rate dipped back below 4% on weaker housing economic indicators. The Freddie Mac survey showed the 30-year, FRM averaged 3.99% for the week ending Thursday, down from the prior week’s average of 4.08%. Last year at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 4.86%. The decline in rates doesn’t do much to bolster Freddie Mac Chief Economist Frank Nothaft’s prediction on Wednesday. He said he expects the 30-year FRM to increase to 4.5% throughout the […]

Ultra-low interest rates have helped the average American to save more than $3,000 a year, according to a USA Today analysis. Interest payments on mortgages have contributed to some of the largest savings. USA Today reports that mortgage interest payments have fallen 30 percent since peaking in 2007. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, Americans spent 5.8 percent of their after-tax income paying interest on mortgages, credit cards, car loans, and on other debts — the smallest share since […]

Have Home Prices Finally Reached Bottom?

Buying a Home

“Prices are bottoming now,” according to a Bank of America Merrill Lynch forecast, released this week. In the fall, the analysts had predicted home prices would drop by 8 percent from the second quarter of 2011 through the first quarter of 2013 — but now they’re revising that forecast, realizing the housing market is stabilizing faster than they originally thought. The analysts now predict that prices will remain flat for the next two years, as the excess foreclosure inventory is […]
